Loneliness

This week in PSHE, we listened to 'Eleanor Rigby' by The Beatles and discussed the differences between being lonely and being alone. Here are some poems we wrote on the subject of loneliness.

  1. The Pain of Loneliness

Here we are all lonely and bare,
With no-one to come, to visit, to care,
When you are alone and there's no-one around,
You feel like you will never be found.

    I feel like I'm dead,
    But I'm really still here,
Why am I filled with so much fear,
When there is actually no-one here?

For in my soul I am a frozen pole,
    Which is where I stay,
For the rest of the day,
    Until I go away.

    Loneliness is my fate,
Unfortunately it has come all too late.

    1. Very well written. I like the way you have realised a poem doesn't have to rhyme in the usual ways with every verse having the same amount of lines. Well done. I enjoyed reading it.

  2. Alone

    Asking for help.
    Let us know.
    Only a phone call away.
kNow we're always here for you.
    Embarrassed to ask? Don't be.

  3. Lonely

    If I am lonely,
    I'll be making friends slowly.

    I've been forgotten,
    I'm hitting the bottom.

    My life is a mess,
Now I burnt my sister's dress.

    I feel so down,
    Trying to find my frown.

    I live in a bowl,
My life is a broken pole.

    1. Very clever use of the word Lonely at the start of each line. All lines are relevant to the subject. Well done

  6. Loneliness

    I'm a person all alone,
How I wish I had someone to phone,
    I'm sitting at home,
My grandchildren won't call because they have grown.

    I remember that day,
    The day it all changed,
    It was Christmas Day,
And all my friends went away.

  7. Why, oh why?

    Why, oh why,
    Am I here,
    On this cold night?
    Fear is my only friend,
    It's all so dark,
No light at the end of the tunnel.

    Why oh why?
    Why me?
    This lonely life,
    Is my only life,
    Not brave,
    Not bold,
    But so, so dark.

    I am the only one.
    I am the lonely one.

  8. Provoke

    If you're alone,
    Then get on your phone,
    If you want food,
    Then get in the mood,
    For fire you need coal,
    To warm up your soul,
    If you're at home,
    Then browse on Chrome,
    When you get soap,
    You'll be able to cope.

  9. If You're All Alone

    All alone
    Lonely times
    On your own
    Never be scared
Every time you're alone - ring.

  10. There are lonely people out there,
But some of them are just alone,
They don't have to be like that,
Their only friend is the darkness,
    That isn't the only way.

    Why are they all alone?
There is no reason for their trauma,
    They can easily be helped,
The times of loneliness shall be over,
The tunnel of darkness has ended,
They will no longer be alone,
You helped them; now they will help you.

  12. Loneliness

Loneliness is abstract - a feeling, an emotion,
Left on your own, officially heart broken.

No-one to look up to but everyone looks down on you,
Trying to work out why, but you don't have a clue.

You're a grain of sand, worthless and small,
And you will feel like you're surrounded by a brick wall.

  13. Loneliness

I remember the time when I was young,
    Living free and having fun,
I used to play with my friends,
Lasting fun, it could never end,
It was the time when I had to leave,
Nursery, primary, high school and work passed by so quick,
And now I'm depending on a walking stick,
All alone in my house, no-one to see and no-one to talk to,
No-one to do my shopping in the icy snow as the winter was coming in,
I remember the time having Christmas dinner alone,
Staring out of the window looking at everyone's happiness, giving presents to everyone,
And here I am in my house,
Staring at the wall with no-one else,
My Christmas dinner is getting cold. I don't want it anymore.

  14. Loneliness

Feeling lonely in the playground with no-one to talk to,
At home there's no-one to visit you,
With no friends you're all depressed,
Hoping one day you'll be blessed,
Making friends might be hard for you,
    Wondering what you should do.

Sitting in the classroom with nothing to do,
Everyone's got a partner except for you,
You've waited for a friend for weeks,
Now you're thinking about it in your sleep,
Now you've spoken to someone new,
You've got one friend, you've got a few.

Now you've got a friend, you're full of joy,
Just this weekend she bought you a toy,
Outside of school you've got a mate,
Now she's got a mate, she can change her fate,
Her mum isn't worried, nor her teacher,
Maybe I'll make a change and sit next to her.

  15. Loneliness

    I remember that day,
    Sitting there,
    about to pray.

I heard the Christmas carols over the road,
    So merry,
Why, why me for this to happen to?
    It doesn't make any sense.
I'm so lonely, if only one person came,
But nobody wants to know me when,
    When I have no money.

Why does it have to be like this?
How did it send them away?
They were the only thing I had: family.

    Now,
    There's not even a soul,
I'm speaking to the painting on the wall,

I did have parents, a husband and best of all children,
    But,
    Now they're gone.

  16. Lonely or alone,
It's a pain in the bone,
Nobody to talk to and nobody to play with,
    Just you on your own,
    Or is it?

    Lonely or alone,
    There's a difference between those,
Lonely is when you're sitting on your own,
But there's lots of people around,
Alone is when you're on your own,
    With nobody around,
Just you on your own and a dark space around you.

  17. Loneliness is like a void,
A kind of silence and dismay,
When asked to describe it not many can say,
What it's like to be lonely.

    The difference is shockingly large,
    Between alone and loneliness,
    There is really no debate,
That loneliness is a horrible fate.

    Everyone has their own opinion,
What it's like to be lonely,
    So no-one knows,
What it's like to be lonely.

Whilst alone is curable, loneliness is not,
Loneliness alone makes a day horrible,
    There is really no debate,
    Loneliness is a horrible fate.

  18. I remember the time when I was home alone,
    I was lonely,
    I was lonely.

I remember the time when I had Christmas dinner alone,
    I was lonely,
    I was lonely.

I remember the time when I had no-one to call,
    I was lonely,
    I was lonely.

I have no friends, I have no family,
    I'm embarrassed to ask,
I'm sat on the sofa, crying my eyes out,
    I've never seen my grandkids,
    They've got their own life,
    I'm alone,
    Waiting for a phone call.
